Google Maps shows Kashmiri borders as disputed with broken lines
The oldest search engine's Map app has redrawn the borders of the world based on updated data. It looks different depends on where you are searching for it. Google Map does show borders of Kashmir with the dotted or dashed gray line which denotes as 'Disputed' when you search out of India and when you search from India it shows Kashmir is controlled by India.
Google Maps says Disputed boundaries are displayed as dashed gray line. The places involved don't agree on the borders.
According to a post, 'Border of Kashmir displayed on google online map is fully controlled by India if you are searching for it from India. While when you search from out of India, like Pakistan, it shows as the disputed or dotted line. Google maps change disputed borders on the matter of where are you searching it from.
On behalf of Google, a company spokesperson said, 'Google has a consistent and global policy to depict the disputed regions and features fairly, showing claims made by the disputed or claiming nations on its global domain.'
'This does not endorse or affirm the position taken by any side. Products have been localized according to local domains such as maps.google.co.in, depicts that country's position as per the local mandate laws.'
'We are committed to providing more accurate and up-to-date maps and other informations. We do update borders according to information from our data service provider. They get the data from local authoritative sources and geo-political conditions change. As we did for the state Telangana in 2014.' A Google Officer told PTI.
'Google's corporate mission is to organize the world's information and deliver it in a more systematic and accurate manner. Google Maps has outsized its impact on people's perception of the world.
It is influenced not just by history or local laws but also it is shifting whims of policymaker, diplomates and its own executives.' the report quoted as saying people of their anonymity.
