Quick facts about river becomes living entity...
Uttarakhand HC has given its long awaited declaration about Holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna. From now they are going to be considered as Living Entities and would have all legal rights through only a designated person. Before this declaration by HC, only New Zealand's Whanganui River was given the same status in the world.
After the declaration these rivers are subject to be treated as living and they would have all rights as a human being. The court will allow complaints, regarding these rivers, to be filed in the name of rivers.
River Ganga is the 3rd largest but dirtiest river in the world while Yamuna is its largest tributary and originates from Yamunotri,Uttarakhand. The Namami Gange is the Modi's Governments's ambitious plan for cleaning and conserving river Ganga. It brings all the efforts done by government or public together.A bench of justice Rajeev Sharma and justice Alok Singh allowed the director general of Namami Gange project, Uttarakhand chief secretary and advocate general the right to represent the Ganga.
It's a thoughtful and strongest step taken by the High Court for saving our rivers. The declaration is so unusual but a great effort to conserve India's Holy Rivers which owns devotion and faith of millions of people.
After, all the efforts and get legal action on such sensitive matters, a question still lingers in our minds that,"Would we have a reformed India in coming years or it would be the same as old?" Answer is not predictable but we would hope for the best as being futuristic. We all know that everything has a cycle and tends to change but they take time. But, In the process of making Ganga and other rivers "Clean Rivers", we all need to come together and hold each others hands to make it happen. It needs joint efforts for making such decisions successful. We should welcome favorable(in favor of India)decisions with open arms and help our India to grow towards "Mera Bharat Mahan" with pride, grace and dignity.
