Santhara ritual in Jainism
If a non jain says this ritual is disgusting,i would love to share some knowledge about great jainism but if a jain "by caste" says it, its unacceptable. . Any soul which has conquered its own inner enemies and achieved the state of supreme being is called jina . Jainism is often referred to as Jain Dharma or Shraman Dharma or the religion of Nirgantha by ancient texts. This religion based on "Ahimsa parmo dharma". Mainly it says "Jiv Hinsa" is the biggest sin in our life.It has so many rituals to follow on. Santhara ritual is very much spiritual. Its philosophy and practice rely mainly on self-effort in progressing the soul on the spiritual ladder to divine consciousness. If a person want to take Santhara vow , he or she got really eternal strength to take this oath. In this ritual they cannot have food and even water for his or her rest of life.Jain religion has belief that this is the direct way to get our soul on to divine path to get "Moksha"...And i think nothing wrong in this belief. Its not kind of force on anybody to follow this ritual , Its on u whether u want to follow it or not. Every feels proud to take this vow, even their family members too. So please dont write against it if u do not know what is it.I m also comes is young generation but i respect it by heart.
Here is a times of india article about More Jains embracing ancient santhara ritual which touches this subject.
